NAPRIS
This was not only the most interesting articles to write but also the most controversial.  Researching and investigating the paranormal is one of the most mysterious and unknown fields.  Shows like Ghost Hunters, A Haunting and Paranormal State provide unexplainable evidence of the paranormal and to others the field is fiction.  The ability to communicate with spirits or see spirits is based on a belief or religion that is probably why it is the most controversial subjects.  Regardless of ones religious beliefs or background, human spirits are common in most religions.  The field is not only controversial but a key to those who have encountered unexplainable events in their life.

NAPRIS (North American Paranormal Research & Investigation Society) located in Kansas City, Missouri is one

of the few investigation teams.  NAPRIS was created to help those make sense of experiences they encountered.  The team was put together in November of 2000 and have investigated as far away as Michigan.  The background of NAPRIS started like many others with unanswered questions about their life experience.  Piper, the co-founder of NAPRIS, found herself in the same situation as others.  Unable to find the resources to help explain the events, NAPRIS began the chapter of the unsolved.  NAPRIS is co-founded by Piper and Sean.  Their investigation team consist of ten members.

Some of the tools utilized in the paranormal field are electromagnetic field detectors, digit recorders, cameras and video equipment.  All of these are used during their investigations.  NAPRIS takes a professional approach to their investigations by using the equipment to disprove or document the unexplained.  At times a simple explanation can be provided that home owners might have over looked or did not realize.  There are times that the evidence presents more questions.  NAPRIS members are a mixed group with different religious backgrounds and studies.  Two of the members are ordained and are able to offer house blessing and/or cleansing.   Investigation is just one step in the paranormal team‘s investigation.  NAPRIS also researches the background of the location  to either confirm the history provided by owner and/or resident or to provide knowledge.

The evidence collected is very time consuming.  On ghost hunting shows, it appears that reviewing evidence just takes a couple of hours.  Imagine, two video cameras and two digital cameras running for four hours each.  That is sixteen hours of footage to view by one person at normal speed.  Now, add in the time it takes to stop, rewind and replay footage that is questionable.  NAPRIS explained that even with ten members that sometimes evidence reviewing can take up two weeks to review.  They would rather take their time in reviewing the evidence and provide
a reasonable answer than to provide evidence that just supports abnormal activity.  To put the owners and/or residents mind at easy for explainable and fixable activity is their goal rather than proving the paranormal.

The dangers of paranormal activity in a home include injuries, mental and physical illness and explainable activity.  To some people, paranormal activity is a one way road to a mental hospital for treatment.  To some people, paranormal activity is very real.  NAPRIS understands the feelings you are going through and provide support.  They respect your believes and your privacy.  A paranormal environment is filled with question, fear and confusion.  Sometimes investigators like NAPRIS are unable to provide the solid evidence that people are looking for.  The evidence will always be

controversial but to those that have experienced the paranormal they may provide answers.

Being a speculator it is difficult to determine if ghosts are real or not.  It is not as easy as one thinks.  Ghosts will always be a mystery, I don’t think anyone can provide evidence that is unquestionable.  For now, I am a believer that paranormal activity is real there are just some things that can not be explained.  Whether or not NAPRIS is able to provide solid evidence will always be questionable in the spectators eyes.  It is up to the individual seeking out the answers.
